Really Hits all the High Notes Oct 21, 2009
By Stuart B. Mushlin This book is a very good outline for intermediate level players who have mostly mastered their scales, but need some didactics to help them improvise. It briefly covers points about harmony, melody and structure all in brief lessons that can be practiced in many keys. I have found it very useful and recommend it highly.
Not for the novice Feb 04, 2012
By mtghorse This book was promoted for intermediate to advanced. Skip intermediate unless you understand "the V7 chord(#9,b9,b5,etc)" and phases like Mixolydian, lowered seventh degree, dominent sevenths in the cycle of forths, and aeolian and locrian and a lot of other complex instructions. I'm an engineer in my 3rd plus year of private instruction and the contents of this book seem to be very advanced to me. The horizontal lines in the measures are so fine and the notes so tiny the excercises are extremely difficult to see. I have other Hal Leonard books that are printed in a much easier to read typeset. The excercise on page 7 shows an E# which is not available on any of the tenor fingering charts that I have. I did not look any further for other problems.
