Cecilio Soprano sax (real world review)! Aug 18, 2008
By Von Face I'm a new sax player...
Although I've played guitar & drums for almost 30 years!
I love the sound of a jazz sax.
I was recently given an old alto to learn on.
I'm progressing very quickly!
So, I sold a guitar & bought a Cecilio Soprano.
I got the gold sandblast finish.
I did a LOT of internet research on Chinese saxes.
Most of what I read said to stay away from them.
I decided to roll the dice.
Here's the deal.
First the bad....
On the curved neck, the octave pad fell off right out of the case.
No big deal....super glue fixed that right up.
The necks were a very tight fit.
It became easier to insert the necks after a few times in.
The ligature was slightly bent...
Getting the reed just right took a little extra time.
Not a huge deal since I invested in a metal mouthpiece...
(It should arrive tomorrow!)
The clasps on the case seem cheap...
Otherwise, it's a very nice case!
That's about it for the complaints.
Now the GOOD!
Very nice weight to the horn!
Not a cheap, lightweight metal....very substantial.
And the gold sandblast finish is awesome...beautiful horn!
Nice key action.
Very easy to play!
First thing I checked was INTONATION.
I read about sopranos being very spotty on intonation.
Well, this sax was right on!
Each note matched with it's octave almost perfectly.
And I was playing melodies along with some CDs....IN TUNE!
As for the sound.....I'm very satisfied.
Great tone....especially the higher register.
Bottom line is, I'm very happy with my Cecilio Soprano.
Great horn for the price!
Hope this review helps someone...

Needs extra work to make it useful Sep 12, 2010
By Angel Alvarado This is an interesting instrument. Very close in sound to a Clarinet, fingering is almost the same too. The brass finish is sparkly and having two choices of necks (straight and curved) helps you find the most comfortable way to pay. On the cons, the corks were extremely thin and had to be replaced in order to fix air leaks. Also, had to send to a music repair shop just after I bought it to adjust the keys to made it sound better, again there were air leaks everywhere, not very well built. Also, if you are a beginner, better buy a Clarinet (easier to keep intonation) or an Alto Sax (easier to play). Soprano Saxs are definitely for experienced players.
