Not Your Typical Gig Bag, Gard. Apr 05, 2012

The "Gard Deluxe Alto Sax Gig Bag High Grade Leather" arrived via UPS yesterday and I used it to transport my alto to a weekly wind ensemble rehearsal last night, it is that good. Buying it from Amazon.com was convenient with One Click Ordering and it took only about three days from time of payment until its arrival via UPS.
Although at first disappointed that what I received was not the bag shown in the promo photo, it was possibly even better, depending on your expectations. I received a basic black rigid leather bag - and it had that special leather aroma one expects from a genuine leather product - with Gard logo impressed into the accessory pouch on either side, not the more supple looking brown item shown in the photo.
Once over that surprise, I found that my alto fit inside the bag perfectly with the generous padding provided in the main interior as well as each of two exterior accessory pouches. As another reviewer on the Amazon affiliate's website noted, the padding in the accessory pouches is the same as provided for the sax which helps protect critical items such as a mouthpiece or neck, although I use the neck pouch that comes with the bag for storing inside the sax bell. Also, although the two carrying straps provided seem awkward for toting the bag, the carry handle is comfortable and substantial making the straps not really that necessary.
The overall impression is one of strength when holding and using this gig bag. It is not relatively flimsy as some gig bags seem to be, but more substantial affording a lot of protection for both the sax and accessories. At the same time it is an attractive contour bag that is easy to carry either by it's handle of using the included straps, two of them.
I'm not sure why I didn't get the bag pictured in the photo, but I'm not disappointed now that I've actually used the bag the supplier decided to send, for whatever reason. I mention it here in case (no pun intended) someone orders the bag shown in the photo expecting to get exactly what is pictured. I suppose it's possible that Gard came out with a new and improved version of the bag and that's what I got. (Rationalization is good for the soul.)
I'd still recommend the Gard Deluxe Alto Sax Gig Bag High Grade Leather to anyone looking for an easy, light and secure way to get their axe to and from rehearsals and gigs.
Update: I discovered the disconnect between what I received and what is shown in the photo. If you check the photo appended to the Gard Deluxe Alto Sax Gig Bag Cordura, you see the same bag shown in the Gig Bag Genuine Leather photo, i.e., the photo with the leather bag description depicts the Cordura bag, not the leather version. I feel so much better now.
