5Extremely versatile  Apr 18, 2011 By loliveros
I love this! My sax teacher suggested I quit the plain 4c plastic crap and go for a hard rubber mouth peice for jazz use, but this responds so well that I use it when playing any genre of music. I would definitely suggest bringing your horn to a music store and trying a few different sizes out first.

The ligatures they come with leak too much air and make me sound muffled, so I'd suggest purchasing a Rovner Mark III C-1RL Alto Saxophone Ligature and Cap or any Rovner Ligature, its completely worth the money!

This mouth peice is the last mouth peice you'll ever need to buy. It gives off a rich, deep tone, responds to any dynamic demand, and will raise the over all quality of your sax(I play a cheap old Antigua intermediate sax, but this mouth peice rocks any horn). If you test out different sizes you'll definitely find your soul mate.

5should be tested in various tip openings before you buy  Jan 18, 2012 By St. Thomas
My mouthpiece was a generic 4c mouthpiece given with the alto i bought (it is a cheap Kingo). When i put Meyer 5m on, my sax sound and tonality immediately changed in the goodway, a more jazzy beautiful sound, my wife also liked it ( before this mouthpiece everybody in the house were escaping from my room and suggesting that i should not play saxophone, cause i sounded horrible) . However because of the narrow tip opening (5m) 0.071, it was a little bit hard for me to stabilize intonation. when you're blowing in the lower octave, almost, you don't need to apply pressure on the reed with your lower lip and teeth. Perhaps 5m is more likely for children or ladies. So i think a little bit more tip opening could be better like, 6m (0.076 ), 7m (0.081) or 8m (0.086 ) that you could easily blow the notes you wanted to in the exact intonation with more control over the reed. I mean when the tip opening decreases your control over the reed decreases also. If the tip opening increases perhaps it would be much harder to blow and causes a little more effort for your lips and face muscles but you can maintain your intonation more easily. Like in the advertisment it is "free blowing", you can blow it really easily, but needs more air than a small chamber, so your lung capacity and diafragma control should be optimal. Well i give 5 stars to Meyer, but in the following time i will change my 5m to 8m i guess.
