Excellent Set for *THIS* Newbie! Jan 24, 2007
By Lil O'Handley
"LillyO"
I was completely new to music. I have always wanted to learn to play the sax and I bought several books to get me started. This set has been invaluable to me! I am learning the notes. I am learning the basics of music. The coolest part is that when I am "confused" (which is often) it came with an audio CD to help me hear what the song I am currently mutilating is *really* supposed to sound like! The DVD helps show proper posture while playing, care for the sax, etc. I admittedly have only watched it a couple of times...it is helpful, but not the most-used part of the set, for sure!

Very Decent No Nonsense Video - Short & to the Point... Aug 11, 2007
By Jim Francis
"Jim Francis"
It's only about 25 mins long but I'm still glad I saw it and I'll be happy to watch it again a few times. It's a very low cost introduction and I think it's worth every penny. The other DVD I ordered and enjoyed was the Ultimate Beginners Series Alto Sax and that was an hour long. It was interesting to see the contrasting points of both videos and I'd definitely recommend them both just to see a couple of different approaches.

Estos libros son una super ayuda para los que nos gusta avanzar sin maestro...solo le faltan imagenes para la posición de los dedos... recomendado...
DVD is a waste of time. Book is spot on. Jun 04, 2011

The DVD started off ok but once the instructor got to the first note he was epic fail. He doesnt explain how to play it. He just plays it and moves on. Other notes were explained later on however. For an absolute beginning instructional video, it was seriously lacking. Also the video sped through at a million miles an hour. If you were trying to learn everything you will spend more time pausing and re-winding then actually playing.
DVD: Epic Fail
The book was actually helpful and in a day I was playing rolling along and other boring little tunes. The sound of the sax is entralling enough to keep me wanting more or I'd have quit. It's hard to want to play such trifle stuff. I understand that it's necessary as a beginner to do this but why hasn't anyone come out with instructional tools that are a tad more modern? I do like the addition of the CD for sound comparison. Also the book does a good job of explaining embouchure. The book also teaches the notes backwards from the DVD. Not sure why they don't fit better, however, my suggestion is to throw the DVD out and not waste your time on it.
Book/CD: Very Good
A Great Resource Jan 26, 2011
By charnysworld The DVD is very helpful for beginners. The CD is also helpful with illustrating how to play the songs in the book. The illustrations gave me an idea of how to keep in tune/pitch and on rhythm.
